The two main sources disagree on scale. World Mining Data puts 2024 output at 36.4 million t, with Turkey at 24.7% and India at 16.5%. The USGS gives 31.1 million t, with India first at 6.0 million t and Turkey second at 5.3 million t. Either way the market is unconcentrated, with an HHI of 1,220. Iran, China, Italy and Thailand follow. WMD output rose from 30.3 million t in 2020 to 41.6 million t in 2022, then fell back. US production is small, at about 440,000 t.
