# Helium: Production

Why two countries supply three-quarters of the world

USGS puts world output at 183 million cubic metres in 2024 and 190 million in 2025. The United States produced 81 million and Qatar 63 million, about 43% and 33% of the 2025 total. Russia (18 million) and Algeria (11 million) follow. Those shares imply high concentration, with an HHI above 2,500 on USGS figures. New plants opened in 2025 in four US states, Canada and South Africa. Qatar's output rides on its LNG trains, so helium supply grows when LNG does.

#### Largest producers by company, global

- **QatarEnergy (Ras Laffan LNG helium plants)**: 63 million m3 (Qatar national output) (2025)
- **Gazprom (Amur gas processing plant)**: 18 million m3 (Russia national output) (2025)
- **Sonatrach (Algerian LNG helium plants)**: 11 million m3 (Algeria national output) (2025)
- **Blue Spruce Minerals (project)**: 22 million m3/yr target capacity (2028 target)

#### Largest producers by company, India

India has no helium production listed by USGS (2026) and imports all its helium, mostly as liquid in ISO containers, through industrial gas distributors. It is not among the top six importers by value (Comtrade 2024) and helium is not on India's 2023 critical minerals list.
