USGS estimates world lime output at 421 million t in 2024 and 420 million t in 2025. China dominates with 310 million t, about 74% of the total. India (17 million t), the US (15 million t), Russia (12 million t) and Brazil (8.2 million t) follow. Country shares imply very high concentration. But lime markets are local, and every industrial economy has its own kilns. The US industry is consolidated: 24 companies ran 70 quicklime plants, and the top five made about 80% of output. US production was flat at 15 million t in 2025.

#### Largest producers by company, India

India made about 17 Mt of lime in 2025, the world's second largest after China (USGS). Producers range from steel-plant and sugar-mill kilns to small merchant kilns; company tonnages are not published. India also imports lime (6.4% of world import value, 2024, Comtrade).
