 Shares are from USDA PSD for 2025/26 and cover only the countries USDA tracks (45.9 Mt of oranges, against 67.2 Mt in FAOSTAT's 2024 world total, which includes India). Juice figures are in tonnes at 65 degrees Brix equivalent.

#### From field to user

1. **Nursery and planting** Disease-free nursery trees are planted in dense groves; the world harvested 3.38 Mha of oranges in 2024 (FAOSTAT), 0.56 Mha of it in Brazil.
2. **Grove care and disease control** Growers fight citrus greening (HLB) by removing infected trees and controlling the psyllid insect that spreads it; Fundecitrus surveys disease and forecasts the Sao Paulo crop.
3. **Harvest** Fruit is picked by hand into 40.8 kg boxes; the Sao Paulo and Minas Gerais belt harvested 292.9 million boxes in 2025/26 (Fundecitrus via FreshPlaza, Sep 2026).
4. **Sorting: fresh or juice** Packhouses wash, wax and grade fresh fruit; the rest goes to processors. Worldwide 37% of USDA-tracked supply was processed in 2025/26 (USDA PSD).
5. **Extraction and concentration** Extractors squeeze juice; it is either evaporated to about 65 Brix concentrate (FCOJ) or pasteurised and stored as not-from-concentrate (NFC). Brazil turned 10.96 Mt of fruit into 1.03 Mt of juice in 2025/26 (USDA PSD).
6. **Bulk shipping** Juice moves in bulk tankers and frozen drums to terminals in Europe and the US; Brazil exported 973 kt in 2025/26 (CitrusBR via FreshPlaza).
7. **Blending and packing** Bottlers in the US and Europe reconstitute concentrate or pack NFC under brands and retailer labels.
8. **Retail and food service** Supermarkets sell fresh fruit and cartons; the US used 440 kt and the EU 304 kt of juice in 2025/26 (USDA PSD).

- In real 2010 dollars the World Bank orange price more than tripled between 2021 ($0.60/kg) and 2024 ($1.96/kg).
