FAOSTAT records 933 thousand tonnes of pepper in 2024, more than triple the 288 thousand tonnes of 1990. Most of the jump came after 2010, when output was 428 thousand tonnes, as Vietnam planted heavily. Vietnam grew 28.1%, India 13.5%, Brazil 13.4%, Burkina Faso 8.4%, Indonesia 6.7% and Iraq 6.5%. The HHI of 1,378 means the crop is unconcentrated. The Burkina Faso and Iraq entries deserve caution, since neither is known as a pepper grower.
