# Strontium: Stocks

'Large' reserves, but only two countries report them

'Large' reserves, but only two countries report them What this tab covers How much is left and how much is held. For minerals and energy: reserves, current output, years of supply and recycling for the top five countries. For farm commodities: production, ending stocks and stocks-to-use for the top five producers (USDA, October 2026). It also covers inventories and stockpiles.

#### Top five countries: reserves, output and years of supply

| Country | Reserves t celestite, gross weight | Current output t celestite, gross weight (mine, 2025e) | Years of supply | Recycling |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| **Iran** | 2,000,000 | 250,000 | 8 | n/a |
| **Spain** | – | 100,000 | – | n/a |
| **China** | 12,000,000 | 80,000 | 150 | n/a |
| **Mexico** | – | 20,000 | – | n/a |
| **Argentina** | – | 700 | – | n/a |

USGS MCS 2026, Strontium (world mine production and reserves table). Years of supply = reserves ÷ current output; reserves grow as prices and technology change, so this is not a countdown.

#### Recycling

No strontium is recycled in the US (USGS 2026) and the EU end-of-life recycling input rate is 0% (EU CRM 2023). Strontium is dispersed in magnets, fireworks and drilling mud, so recovery is not practical. World reserves are 'large' and resources may exceed 1 billion t (USGS). No India, China or Japan rate was found.

USGS calls world reserves 'large'. China reports 12 million t and Iran 2 million t, but figures for other countries are not available. Resources may exceed 1 billion t. Geology is not the constraint. Recycling is nil, and the EU end-of-life recycling input rate is 0%. Strontium in fireworks, mud and glass is dispersed for good. Some US celestite imports in 2025 may have been stockpiled, but no stock data exist. There is no US government stockpile.

#### Recycling
End-of-life recycling input rate in the EU: 0% of demand met from post-consumer scrap (EU CRM study 2023).

None.
