World Mining Data puts output of talc, steatite and pyrophyllite at 7.44 Mt in 2024, after 7.75 Mt in 2021 and 2022. USGS gives 7.2 Mt for 2024 and 6.9 Mt for 2025. India (20%) and China (19%) lead, followed by Brazil, the United States, South Africa and Afghanistan. The HHI of 1,021 makes it an unconcentrated market. Much Afghan crude talc is milled in and exported from Pakistan.
