# Thallium: Stocks

Why thallium has no reserve figure at all

#### Recycling

USGS reports no thallium recycling and no reserve estimates; earlier reserve estimates were based on thallium in zinc ores. China, Kazakhstan and Russia were the leading producers, but country output is withheld. Thallium is not assessed in EU CRM 2023. No country recycling rate was found.

USGS publishes no reserve figures, because it is hard to find deposits where thallium can be extracted economically. Earlier estimates were based on the thallium content of zinc ores. Resources are judged adequate. The practical stock is whatever zinc and copper smelters choose to capture from flue dust. Recycling is nil, and the metal is toxic, so end-of-life recovery is unlikely. There is no government stockpile, and US inventory data are unavailable.
