Fluorspar: Production

Why China mines most of it, yet still imports more

What this tab covers Who produces it and how much: world output over recent years, the top producing countries with their shares, USGS world figures for 2024 and 2025, and the largest producing companies globally and in India.

USGS estimates world mine output at 10.3 Mt in 2024 and 10 Mt in 2025. China produced 6 Mt, about 60%, followed by Mexico and Mongolia at 1.5 Mt each. World Mining Data shows 9.7 Mt in 2024 and a 68% share for China. Its HHI of 4,884 is highly concentrated. Output rose 37% from 2020 to 2024 on that series. China's own supply is tightening under mining 'rectification', and its imports rose 48% in the first half of 2025, mostly from Mongolia.

USGS estimate

World, 2024 10,300 thousand metric tons fluorspar (mine production) World, 2025e 10,000 thousand metric tons fluorspar (mine production)

Largest producers by company, global

  • Chinese fluorspar miners (e.g. Huayou Mining, Xinjiang): 6,000 kt (China national output) (2025)
  • Mongolian producers: 1,500 kt (Mongolia national output) (2025)
  • Masan (Nui Phao): 220 kt/yr acidspar capacity (2014 start)
  • SepFluor (Nokeng): 210 kt/yr capacity (2019 start planned)
  • Canada Fluorspar (St Lawrence, Newfoundland): 200 kt/yr target (2025 restart)

Largest producers by company, India

India has no significant fluorspar output listed by USGS (2026) and is the second-largest importer of acid-grade fluorspar (27.0% of world import value in 2024), feeding HF and fluorochemical plants, mainly in Gujarat. Fluorspar is not on India's 2023 critical minerals list.
