Silica sand: Production
How the Netherlands joined the top three producers
What this tab covers Who produces it and how much: world output over recent years, the top producing countries with their shares, USGS world figures for 2024 and 2025, and the largest producing companies globally and in India.World output was about 434 million t in 2024 and 430 million t in 2025. The United States led with 120 million t, followed by China at 92 million t and the Netherlands at 68 million t. Turkey, Italy, France and India each produce 12 to 14 million t. Definitions vary widely between countries, so comparisons are rough. US output is driven by frac sand, which took 81% of tonnage. US sales jumped from 91 million t in 2021 to 136 million t in 2023, then eased with drilling.

India mined about 12 Mt of industrial sand in 2025 (USGS), fifth in the world, from many small quarries. Silica sand and quartz have been 'minor minerals' regulated by the states since February 2015, so national output data are no longer collected by IBM. India exported quartz and quartzite worth Rs 922 crore in 2022-23 (IBM).
