Jute: Movement

Why the official trade figures barely make sense

What this tab covers How it flows between countries: the largest bilateral trade routes drawn on a world map, 2024 UN Comtrade export and import values with the top exporters and importers by share, plus shipping routes, chokepoints and trade restrictions.

Official trade figures for HS 5303 (jute and other bast fibres, raw or processed but not spun) are patchy. Reported exports were only $50.7 million in 2024, against $182 million of imports, so major exporters are missing. Bangladesh, the main seller of raw fibre, does not appear, and Tanzania's 46.1% share may reflect other bast fibres or misreporting. India took 47.9% of imports to feed its mills, followed by Pakistan (12.2%), China (9.9%) and Nigeria (9.3%). Most jute trade by value is in yarn and goods, outside this code.
