The United States is a net exporter: it exported about 37,000 t of kyanite in 2025 and imported 2,700 t of kyanite minerals. US imports in 2021-24 came from South Africa (54%), Peru (24%), France (18%) and the UK (4%). In India, beach-sand mining limits have cut sillimanite output. Tamil Nadu banned it in 2013, and the national government banned private beach-sand mining in 2019.
