Rhodium: Production

The most concentrated precious metal on Earth

What this tab covers Who produces it and how much: world output over recent years, the top producing countries with their shares, USGS world figures for 2024 and 2025, and the largest producing companies globally and in India.

Rhodium is the most concentrated of the precious metals. The 2024 HHI is 7,004. South Africa mined 83.0% of the world's rhodium, Russia 7.8% and Zimbabwe 7.5%, with Canada and the US below 2% combined. World output in World Mining Data was only about 21 to 24 tons a year from 2020 to 2024, and 22.8 tons in 2024. That is less than one-hundredth of gold output. USGS does not report rhodium mine output separately, but notes that South African PGM output fell about 9% in 2025.

Largest producers by company, global

  • Valterra Platinum (formerly Anglo American Platinum): 25,100 oz rhodium mined at Amandelbult (half-year) (H1 2026)
  • Impala Platinum (Implats): 3.5 Moz 6E PGMs (group, not rhodium alone) (FY2026 (to June))
  • Northam Platinum: 939,000 oz 4E PGMs (own operations, not rhodium alone) (FY2026 (to June))

Largest producers by company, India

India has no PGM mining or primary refining and imports all its rhodium, mainly in autocatalysts and catalyst-grade metal; rhodium is on India's 2023 critical minerals list. No Indian volumes were found.
