The US depends heavily on imports: over 95% of fused alumina and 74% of silicon carbide consumption in 2025. Over 2021-24, China supplied 92% of crude fused alumina imports and 97% of crude silicon carbide imports. Steel shot comes mainly from Canada (47% of imports), and the US has been a net exporter of it since 2022.
