Bromine: Movement

Why most bromine crosses borders as compounds

What this tab covers How it flows between countries: the largest bilateral trade routes drawn on a world map, 2024 UN Comtrade export and import values with the top exporters and importers by share, plus shipping routes, chokepoints and trade restrictions.

Elemental bromine (HS 2801.30) is a small trade, about $280 million of exports in 2024, because most bromine moves as compounds. Israel supplied 45.3% of export value, Jordan 17.2% and Japan 14.8%; the Dead Sea pair alone gave over 60%. China dominated imports with 61.1%, far ahead of India (7.1%) and Singapore (5.8%). China's own output fell from 100,000 t to 90,000 t in 2025. US exports of bromine and compounds went mainly to Guyana (43%) and Saudi Arabia (20%) through July 2025. Elemental bromine pays a 5.5% US tariff.
