Bromine: Production

How the Dead Sea came to dominate supply

What this tab covers Who produces it and how much: world output over recent years, the top producing countries with their shares, USGS world figures for 2024 and 2025, and the largest producing companies globally and in India.

Excluding withheld US output, world production was about 440,000 t in 2024 and 430,000 t in 2025. Israel led with 200,000 t, Jordan followed with 110,000 t and China produced 90,000 t. Together these three supplied over 90% of the reported total. China's output fell from 100,000 t, and Ukraine's almost halved to 6,000 t. Two US companies in Arkansas hold a large share of world capacity. Jordan reached record output in the first half of 2025 despite regional conflict.

USGS estimate

World, 2024 440,000 metric tons, bromine content (excludes withheld US production) World, 2025e 430,000 metric tons, bromine content (excludes withheld US production)

Largest producers by company, global

  • ICL Group (Dead Sea Bromine): 200,000 t (Israel national output) (2025)
  • Jordan Bromine Company (Albemarle and Arab Potash): 110,000 t (Jordan national output) (2025)
  • Gulf Resources: 2,250 t sold (2024)
  • Japanese seawater bromine producers (e.g. Tosoh): 20,000 t (Japan national output) (2025)

Largest producers by company, India

India produced about 7,000 t of bromine in 2025 (USGS), mostly from Gujarat salt bitterns and subsoil brine, and both exports (6.0% of world value) and imports (7.1%) bromine (Comtrade 2024). Archean Chemical is the main merchant producer. Bromine is not on India's 2023 critical list.
