Crushed stone: Production

Why nobody can add up a world total

What this tab covers Who produces it and how much: world output over recent years, the top producing countries with their shares, USGS world figures for 2024 and 2025, and the largest producing companies globally and in India.

No reliable world total exists. USGS says countries report crushed stone in too many different ways to add up. US output was about 1.5 billion t in 2025, worth $27 billion, unchanged from 2024. Texas, Pennsylvania and Florida led, with the top ten states making about 56% of output. Production is local and fragmented, though large aggregates companies own many quarries. Demand follows construction, infrastructure spending, housing starts and weather.

No global production series is published for this commodity in the datasets used.

Largest producers by company, global

  • Vulcan Materials: 227 million short tons of aggregates shipped (2025)
  • SigmaRoc: 3.5 Mt dolomite a year (Dolomitas only) (2026)

Largest producers by company, India

India's crushed stone is mostly limestone for cement (470 Mt of cement in 2025, USGS) and road and building aggregate from thousands of small crushers, many now also making M-sand. No national tonnage for aggregates is published. India is also a leading dimension-stone exporter, supplying 16% of US dimension stone imports and 25% of US granite imports by value in 2021-24 (USGS).
