Garnet: Production
How Australia came to mine nearly half the world's garnet
How Australia came to mine nearly half the world's garnet What this tab covers Who produces it and how much: world output over recent years, the top producing countries with their shares, USGS world figures for 2024 and 2025, and the largest producing companies globally and in India.World output was about 734,000 t in 2024 and 730,000 t in 2025. Australia produced 350,000 t, nearly half, and China 280,000 t. The United States added 77,000 t and India 15,000 t. South Africa's mine suspended operations in November 2024 because of debts, removing 40,000 t of supply. Australia and China together supplied about 86% of the total, so production is highly concentrated. Russia and Turkey also mine garnet for domestic use, but report no output.
