Niobium: Movement

From Brazil to Chinese steel mills

What this tab covers How it flows between countries: the largest bilateral trade routes drawn on a world map, 2024 UN Comtrade export and import values with the top exporters and importers by share, plus shipping routes, chokepoints and trade restrictions.

Ferroniobium (HS 7202.93) is a $3.0 billion trade (Comtrade). Brazil supplied 76.2% of 2023 export value, Canada 9.4% and Singapore 8.3%. China took 38.0% of 2024 imports, the US 8.9% and South Korea 7.6%. Singapore and the Netherlands act as distribution hubs, re-exporting Brazilian metal. USGS reports Brazil's ferroniobium exports at 92,000 tonnes in 2024, with China receiving 49%. With supply so concentrated, one country's logistics matter more than any sea chokepoint.
