Peru catches, China buys, Ecuador farms shrimp for America

Comtrade puts 2024 fishmeal exports (HS 230120) at $5.1 billion, with Peru at 31.6% and China taking 52.4% of imports. Frozen shrimp (HS 030617) exports reached $16.3 billion, led by Ecuador (38.3%) and India (26.5%); the United States (26.7%) and China (26.2%) import over half. Fresh Atlantic salmon (HS 030214) exports were $16.6 billion, with Norway at 48.4%. Sweden appears as both a top exporter (22.0%) and importer (22.8%), reflecting Norwegian fish trucked through it into the EU. Anti-dumping duties on shrimp are a recurring friction.
