Bananas: Production
How world banana output nearly tripled since 1990
What this tab covers Who produces it and how much: world output over recent years, the top producing countries with their shares, USGS world figures for 2024 and 2025, and the largest producing companies globally and in India.FAOSTAT puts 2024 world banana output at about 139 million tonnes, nearly triple the 50 million of 1990. Growth was fastest in the 2000s, from 68 million in 2000 to 113 million in 2010, then 126 million by 2020. India grows 27.0%, ahead of China (8.4%), Indonesia, Ecuador, Brazil and Nigeria. The HHI of 996 means production is unconcentrated. But output and exports differ sharply: India and China eat nearly all of theirs, while Ecuador exports most of its crop. Export supply is much more concentrated.
