Beryllium: Production

Why the US leads in a metal most nations lack

What this tab covers Who produces it and how much: world output over recent years, the top producing countries with their shares, USGS world figures for 2024 and 2025, and the largest producing companies globally and in India.

World Mining Data, which counts concentrate tonnage, shows output rising from 6,240 t in 2020 to 9,679 t in 2024. The HHI of 4,149 is high. The US held 59%, China 20% and Mozambique 15%. On a beryllium-content basis, USGS puts world output at 433 t in 2024 and 430 t in 2025. The US mined 230 t, over half. Brazil, China and Nigeria provide most of the rest. Pitron's EU table credits the US with 90% of 2010-14 production (pdf p. 177). Kazakhstan may also mine beryl, but data are lacking.

Largest producers by company, global

  • Materion Corporation: 230 t Be (US mine shipments; Materion is the only US producer) (2025)
  • Brazilian beryl producers (country total): 80 t Be (country mine output) (2025e)
  • Chinese beryl producers (country total): 77 t Be (country mine output) (2025e)
  • Nigerian beryl producers (country total): 40 t Be (country mine output) (2025e)

Largest producers by company, India

India reports no current beryllium mine or metal production in the sources used (USGS lists none). Beryllium is on India's 2023 critical list, and India's royalty schedule includes beryllium (IBM yearbook 2023), but supply for defence, nuclear and electronics uses is imported.
