Cassava: Movement
The cross-border chip trade from Cambodia into Thailand
What this tab covers How it flows between countries: the largest bilateral trade routes drawn on a world map, 2024 UN Comtrade export and import values with the top exporters and importers by share, plus shipping routes, chokepoints and trade restrictions.Exports under HS 071410 (fresh or dried cassava, mostly chips) were worth $1.43 billion in 2024, a small fraction of output. Cambodia supplied 48.4% and Thailand 34.7%, with Costa Rica a distant third at 10.3%. China took 40.7% of imports and Thailand 39.8%, showing that roots and chips cross the Cambodian border into Thai chip and starch plants. Cassava starch has its own code, HS 110814. Morgan recalls Europe importing about 4 million tons of tapioca a year as duty-free feed, a trade later curbed by EU import quotas.
