Pumice: Movement

Why Greek pumice crosses the Atlantic to America

What this tab covers How it flows between countries: the largest bilateral trade routes drawn on a world map, 2024 UN Comtrade export and import values with the top exporters and importers by share, plus shipping routes, chokepoints and trade restrictions.

Pumice trades under HS 2513.10. Most is used near the pit, but Greek pumice crosses the Atlantic. Greece supplied 80% of US imports over 2021-24, mainly to east and Gulf coast markets that are far from western US mines. Iceland (9%) and Norway (4%) followed. Shipping by sea can be cheaper than trucking across the US. US net import reliance was 10% in 2025, and tariffs are free.

No distinct HS trade code for this commodity, so trade flows are not charted.
