Rubidium: Movement

Why nobody knows where US rubidium comes from

What this tab covers How it flows between countries: the largest bilateral trade routes drawn on a world map, 2024 UN Comtrade export and import values with the top exporters and importers by share, plus shipping routes, chokepoints and trade restrictions.

There is no separate trade code for rubidium, so flows are described from USGS import data. Rubidium compounds cross borders under general headings such as other alkali metals (HS 2805.19), chlorides, carbonates and nitrates, with US tariffs of 3.5% to 5.5%. No reliable data on the origin of US rubidium imports have existed since 1988. In earlier years some concentrate was shipped to the United States for processing. Today ore from stockpiles at former mines feeds refineries believed to be in China and Germany, and USGS counts China, Germany and Russia as the main producers of refined compounds.

No distinct HS trade code for this commodity, so trade flows are not charted.
