Cashew nuts: Production

How West Africa overtook India as the cashew orchard

What this tab covers Who produces it and how much: world output over recent years, the top producing countries with their shares, USGS world figures for 2024 and 2025, and the largest producing companies globally and in India.

FAOSTAT records 4.24 million tonnes of cashew in shell in 2024, five times the 0.83 million of 1990 and up from 3.70 million in 2020. Côte d'Ivoire grew 22.3%, India 18.7%, Tanzania 12.5%, Vietnam 7.2%, Ghana 5.2% and Benin 5.0%. The HHI of 1,182 shows the crop is unconcentrated. The striking point is the gap between growing and processing. Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana and Benin alone grow about a third of the world's raw nuts but shells only part of them, while Vietnam and India process far more than they grow.
