Potash: Production

How war and sanctions cut output from 46 to 40 Mt

What this tab covers Who produces it and how much: world output over recent years, the top producing countries with their shares, USGS world figures for 2024 and 2025, and the largest producing companies globally and in India.

In 2024 Canada mined 31.7% of world potash (K2O basis), Russia 20.9%, Belarus 13.6% and China 11.0% (World Mining Data). The HHI of 1836 means moderate concentration, but Russia and Belarus together supply about 35%. Output fell from 46.3 Mt in 2021 to 39.8 Mt in 2022, as sanctions and war disrupted flows. It recovered to 47.7 Mt in 2024. USGS puts 2025 at 49 Mt, with capacity of 66.1 Mt rising to 77.4 Mt by 2029, mostly in Laos and Russia. Leadership has rotated: Germany in 1960, the USSR in 1985, Canada by 2010 (Tilton & Guzman, pdf p. 150).
