Natural rubber: Movement

From Thai plantations to Chinese tyre factories

What this tab covers How it flows between countries: the largest bilateral trade routes drawn on a world map, 2024 UN Comtrade export and import values with the top exporters and importers by share, plus shipping routes, chokepoints and trade restrictions.

UN Comtrade data for natural rubber (HS 4001) show $13.9 billion of exports in 2024. Thailand supplied 35.9% by value, Indonesia 20.9% and Côte d'Ivoire 17.7%, with Malaysia and Cambodia next. China was the largest importer at 25.2%, followed by the United States (11.6%), Malaysia (10.6%), Japan (8.0%) and India (6.7%). Malaysia appears on both sides because its glove and processing industries draw in raw rubber from neighbours. Radetzki & Wårell find the top five exporters supplied 85% of rubber exports in 2015-2017. The EU imports all of its natural rubber, and its deforestation regulation now covers rubber.
