Yttrium: Production

Why nobody knows exactly how much is mined

What this tab covers Who produces it and how much: world output over recent years, the top producing countries with their shares, USGS world figures for 2024 and 2025, and the largest producing companies globally and in India.

USGS estimates 2025 world mine output at 10,000-15,000 t of yttrium oxide equivalent, mostly from China and Burma. Precise figures are lacking because China did not publish its 2025 rare-earth quotas. Separation is concentrated in China: nearly all US imports of yttrium derive from concentrates processed there. China exported about 1,600 t of yttrium compounds and metal in 2025. The main destinations were Japan, South Korea, the US and Germany.

No global production series is published for this commodity in the datasets used.

India mines rare earths only through IREL, mostly from monazite, which is light-rare-earth rich and low in yttrium. India's total rare-earth output was 2,900 t REO in 2025e (USGS). In November 2025 the Cabinet approved a Rs 7,280 crore scheme for 6,000 t a year of rare-earth magnet capacity (IANS, Feb 2026), which will need separated rare earths but not much yttrium.
