Why Australia's export share looks so small
Why Australia's export share looks so small What this tab covers How it flows between countries: the largest bilateral trade routes drawn on a world map, 2024 UN Comtrade export and import values with the top exporters and importers by share, plus shipping routes, chokepoints and trade restrictions.Comtrade covers zirconium ores and concentrates under HS 2615.10, worth $1.4 billion of exports in 2024. South Africa supplied 43.5% by value, then Indonesia (10%), Senegal (9%) and Australia (8%). Australia's share looks low beside its mining lead. Some of its zircon likely ships in mixed concentrates or under other codes. China takes 62.5% of imports, far ahead of India (8%) and Spain (7%). The trade therefore runs mainly from African and Australian coasts to Chinese ceramics and chemical plants.
