Eggs: Production

How world egg output nearly tripled since 1990

What this tab covers Who produces it and how much: world output over recent years, the top producing countries with their shares, USGS world figures for 2024 and 2025, and the largest producing companies globally and in India.

FAOSTAT counts about 1.78 trillion hen eggs in 2024, up from 1.21 trillion in 2010 and 649 billion in 1990, almost a tripling. China laid 34.8%, India 8.3%, Indonesia 8.2%, the United States 6.1%, Brazil 3.7% and Mexico 3.5%. The HHI of 1,438 means production is unconcentrated despite China's share, because most countries produce for themselves. Growth has been fastest in Asia, where rising incomes shift diets towards animal protein and eggs are the cheapest kind.
