How China and India grow over half the world's crop
How China and India grow over half the world's crop What this tab covers Who produces it and how much: world output over recent years, the top producing countries with their shares, USGS world figures for 2024 and 2025, and the largest producing companies globally and in India.FAOSTAT puts 2024 world output at 57.6 Mt in the shell. China grew 34.1%, India 20.8%, Nigeria 7.5%, the United States 5.1%, Myanmar 3.0% and Sudan 2.9%. The HHI of 1,725 is moderate, driven by China's large share. Output rose from 23.1 Mt in 1990 to 43.7 Mt in 2010 and 54.6 Mt in 2020, about 2.5-fold by 2024, though growth has slowed since 2010. China and India crush much of their crops for cooking oil. Argentina, the largest exporter, is not among the top six producers: it grows mainly for export.
