Manganese: Production

South Africa and Gabon: the two manganese powers

What this tab covers Who produces it and how much: world output over recent years, the top producing countries with their shares, USGS world figures for 2024 and 2025, and the largest producing companies globally and in India.

On a manganese-content basis, South Africa produced 39% of the 2024 total, Gabon 22% and Australia 8% (World Mining Data). The HHI of 2,221 indicates moderate concentration. World output slipped about 4% between 2020 and 2024, to 18.8 million tonnes. USGS estimates a rebound to about 20 million tonnes in 2025, as Ghana and Gabon expanded and an Australian mine reopened after a cyclone. Alloy and metal production is far more concentrated in China than mining is: China mined under 5% of the ore in 2024.
